June Lake Loop

Outside of Crowley Lake, there is no other area of the eastern Sierra that is synonymous with opening day trout fishing than the June Lake Loop. The loop is comprised of June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake and they can produce some great early season trout fishing. As a general rule, the bigger fish come from Gull and June Lakes, with the best bank fishing at Silver Lake and a better volume of brown trout from Grant Lake. Each of the four lakes in the June Lake Loop has their own personality and they can be reached by taking Hwy. 158 out of June Lake Junction.

June Lake

June Lake is 160 acres and shore fishing can be good along the rocks parallel to the June Loop road. The north and southeast shoreline can also be productive. Troll the steep drop-offs using Rapalas and Kastmasters.

Gull Lake

Gull Lake is 64 acres and holds a nice population of rainbow trout and brook trout. Trollers working three colors with lead core line can have success and still fishing can produce as well.

Silver Lake

Silver Lake is 80 acres and still fishing, trolling, fly casting and lure tossing can all be effective.

Grant Lake

Grant Lake is 1,100 acres and features good fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout. Start by trolling Privy Point on the west side using Rapalas and Rebel plugs. The area around the dam and the inlet to Rush Creek can also be productive spots.
